BOOKS

I love print. And so I started to collect my watercolors and create books. Beside my watercolor-yearbooks, where I collect anything I paint through a year I am going to create some books with smaller collections with a specific theme. I don´t follow any commercial target with my watercolors and so I don´t plan to earn any money with the book publishing. It is just for fun. The printed versions available through blurb books don´t have any monetary benefit for me - the prices shown there are the pure printing costs for the blurb print-on -demand-service.  I try to provide free ebook versions of any book I create. You find the download links on my blog: https://brushparkwatercolors.wordpress.com/

You can also flip through the book pages on the blurb book pages following the links below. Or go directly to see all of my books on blurb.

Brushpark Watercolors: Carsten Wieland 2016

Sometimes it is necessary to end a professional artist career to discover the joy and passion for art again. After 25 years working as a freelance artist, game-designer and illustrator, most of the time with digital tools, Carsten Wieland decided to quit this job and come back to the roots of his inspiration: watercolors. Without any commercial compromise he found his passion in painting abandoned houses, gnarly trees and wide landscapes. Always searching for new ways of expression with the brush about 700 watercolors and sketches came together in 2016 and all these are collected in this book. The result of an everyday ritual, self therapy and an unstopable fountain of joy.

Always searching for new ways of expression with the brush more than 200 watercolors came together in 2017 already and all these are collected in this book, together with a selection of watercolor sketches. The result of an everyday ritual, self therapy and an unstopable fountain of joy.

Selected Watercolor Sketches 2017 / 2018

In June 2017 a friend of mine brought me a handmade watercolor sketchbook from Fabriano. Italy. It looked beautiful and the surface of the paper felt great but my friend told me that he could not paint on it because it is a little bit tricky. I decided to give it a try at least but it took me more than two month until I found some time to make my first brushstrokes in the sketchbook. But then I realized pretty quick what great gift my friend had given me. He was right, to paint on this paper was different to any other paper that I had used before. My painting method was pretty wet and bold at this time but on this handmade paper I had to change it. I had to reduce everything to the minimum to get a satisfying result. After a few trials I had found a way and I fell in love with this paper since. The reduction was something that I tried to achieve for a while already and this handmade paper in a small format was a great help to make some progress in this direction. In this book I collected my favorite sketches from 2017 and 2018.
